I have discovered how to ignore the rooster - just take some sleep medication and you don't hear him at all. Another fun filled day. Breakfast of rice toast (different) with guava jelly (wonderful) and a lovely glass of POG juice (pineapple, orange and guava). Back to Front Street in search of a Valentine's gift for me. Of course, my mom was doing most of the buying. She is on her third purse. They are either too small, hurt her neck, blah blah blah. I will say I like the one she finally bought. I may have to buy one for myself also before I leave. We met a local artist and I purchased one of his sketches of the humuhumunukunukuapua'a fish. Some day it may be worth tens of dollars. We then moved on the the Pacific Whale Foundation where I was somewhat in control and only purchased three t-shirts. Two had turtles, one had whales. I also bought a magnet but all proceeds help the whales so it is all for a good cause. We finally found my Valentine's Day gift - a lovely tote bag with turtles and petroglyphs. Just what I wanted. It is now quite warm - 82 degrees - and sunny so we decide to have a shaved ice. I love shaved ice and the shop on Front Street called Local Boys is the best that I have had.
We had the lava flow with ice cream in the bottom. A lovely concoction of strawberry and pina colada. We will be back - probably every day. We continued to wander around the harbor, the beach and ended up at Cheeseburger in Paradise for lunch. I had the California burger without a bun and fries. Just what I like to eat, a big hunk of meat. The grilled pineapple and guacamole made it palatable. After all this fun, it is time to head back to the condo for a rest and to drop off our purchases. However, we make a detour and picked up my bike. I rented a beach cruiser, It is white with green accents and daisies. I am going to ride it around Lahaina and head to the beach each morning. I would look so local except for the lack of any tan and my bike has a sign on the basket that says Boss Frog's Bike Rental.
Refreshed from out break in the condo we head back to the beach that is just outside of Lahaina to look for whales. It was beautiful, sun shining, breeze blowing, soft sand between our toes and whales frolicking in the ocean. I took hundreds of photos but I need a larger telephoto lens. Here are a few pics of the frolicking whales. Hopefully on the cruise tomorrow I will get much closer to the whales.
With the light fading we head back to the condo for dinner and to rest up for tomorrow's whale adventure. Since it was Valentine's Day, we wanted to make it special and what is more special than matching mother and daughter outfits.
I know, you wish you had one also. Well Valentine's Day 2012 is over. Tomorrow is whale watching and another shaved ice. We are then packing a lunch and heading to a beach. Not sure which one but all the beaches are beautiful. Aloha peeps.
